This update of the PhotoQ Photoblog Plugin fixes issues with the automatic posting functionality under PhotoQ 1.6.

Please make sure that after you upgrade to PhotoQ 1.6.1, you also copy the updated “wimpq-cronjob.php” file from the “photoq-photoblog-plugin” folder to your WordPress root folder, overwriting the existing one if present.

Additionally, this update brings two new features related to automatic posting via cron jobs:

1. One invocation of the cron job can now post multiple photos at once if you check “Use settings of second post button for automatic posting.” under “Settings->PhotoQ->Further Options->Automatic Posting”. If checked it will use the same settings as for the “Second Post Button” when posting via the cronjob which you can also set under “Further Options”.
2. You can now add all photos in the FTP upload folder automatically to the queue when the cronjob runs. This is useful on a fully automated site where you have some mechanism to automatically upload photos to the FTP directory, and you want its content automatically posted. Photos are in this case posted with only the automatic titles, the default category and no tags or descriptions. To enable this feature you need to check “When cronjob runs, automatically add FTP uploads to queue.” and FTP uploads need to be enabled and configured as well of course. Also make sure that PhotoQ has write permissions to the FTP directory, otherwise it is not able to move the photos from the FTP directory to the queue but it will only copy them and reattempt to move them again the next time the cronjob is executed.

Note that adding to queue runs before posting when the cronjob executes. So if you enable both of the above features and configure the first one to post the entire queue, whenever the cron job runs it will immediately post the whole content of the FTP directory to your blog.

This update of PhotoQ makes the plugin compatible with WordPress 2.7. Note that it will not work with older WordPress versions, so update WordPress first.

Also note that if you are using the iQ2 Photoblog Theme, you have to update iQ2 as well.

• PhotoQ is now nicer to your web server: it is now only loaded in the admin section = less load on web server when users view your site (thanks to Jesse for bringing this to my attention).

This update for PhotoQ 1.5 fixes an issue with batch posting several photos at once. If you do not use the batch posting feature you do not need to upgrade necessarily.

More information on the issue fixed: WordPress only seems to keep the post date with a precision of one second. Now, if you batch post photos with PhotoQ it is very likely that some of them will end up being posted within the same second, the post dates will thus be undistinguishable for WordPress in this case. This then in turn poses problems with template functions such as get_next_post that at the time of writing assume different post dates for every post, resulting in posts “disappearing” in your theme. This updated makes sure post dates differ by at least one second even if the posts are posted faster.

To upgrade to PhotoQ 1.5.3 from 1.5.2 you should just be able to overwrite the plugin folder or perform an auto upgrade. For updating from older versions please see the instructions given in the 1.5.2 release.

This update for PhotoQ 1.5 includes a number of bugfixes and also some new features. Performing the update is recommended to all PhotoQ users. Please check the updating instructions below. For a full description of all features please also see the post of the PhotoQ 1.5 release.

New features:

• Import photos uploaded via FTP. There is now a new option under “Settings->PhotoQ->Further Options->FTP Upload” that lets you enable importing photos from a specified directory on your server. Once enabled, you get a new button “Import from ftp directory…” when adding photos to your queue. A click on the buttons leads to the FTP import screen where you can choose which photos from the ftp directory PhotoQ should import and where you can also enter common info for the photos to be imported. Note that depending on whether PhotoQ has write permissions to the ftp directory it will copy (if it doesn’t have write permission) or move (if it does) the selected files from the ftp directory to the qdir.
• Publish several photos from the queue at once. In the PhotoQ management panel (”Manage->PhotoQ”) you will now find a second post button to the left of the “Post Top of Queue…” button. Under “Settings->PhotoQ->Further Options->Second Post Button” you can specify how many photos are published at once if you hit this button.
• Lists of categories can now be folded away throughout the plugin which is convenient if you deal with a lot of categories. There is an option under “Settings->PhotoQ->Further Options->Fold Categories” that lets you decide whether you want category lists to be open or closed by default.
• Nicer default titles. If you do not specify a title when uploading a photo, PhotoQ until now just showed the corresponding filename. It still does so but it now tries to make it nicer by replacing underscores and hyphens with spaces, by stripping off the file extension and with proper title capitalization.

Only upgrade if you have problems with installing PhotoQ through WordPress auto upgrade.

I repacked PhotoQ 1.5 in a different folder structure on the WordPress plugin directory. I hope this will solve the auto upgrade problems some people are having. I also added a placeholder file to the cache directory hoping that it now gets packed by the plugin directory (empty directories obviously don’t). Sorry for those who had inconveniences with auto upgrade.
