Here's something that would be absolutely awesome...
I already name ictures before uploading them according to the post title I want them to have in wordpress. But after uploading, there is still quite a lot of work left to tag each one of them. The chances of my connection dying or just getting bored might mean some work is lost if I need o sto in the middle of the process.

Now, how about reading the tag information from the image file name as well? This way I could upload a batch and know thaat the only thing missing will be the description, which is unique for each picture, and which I can always process one by one when I have more time.

Here is an example.
Right now, I am uploading a "01_This_is_a_nice_picture.jpg" to get a post titled "This is a Nice Picture" to appear first in the queue. I need to add tag information and a description after uploading.
I would love to be able to upload "01_This_is_a_nice_picture-tags-nice-wordpress-example.jpg" to get the tags "nice", "wordpress" and "example" automatically assigned to that post.

Does this make any sort of sense?

Hi, sorry for the long reply time. I turned on the debugging, but I'm not sure it's much help. The error returned at the bottom is still a generic 403 message. However, I've included the end of the debugging below (having trouble submitting all of it). I've also created a temporary editor account for you on the site if you want to poke around. If you let me know your email (or where to find it) I'll send over the information.

Thanks so much for all your help with this so far, you've built a great product here and your dedication to its users really shows it.

here is one thing we could try:

1. edit the file PhotoQ.php in a texteditor
2. look for the function called addHeaderCode
3. inside this function you will find a line saying

debug: false,

4. change this to

debug: true,

5. save the file and replace the corresponding one on your server

what this does is give you a textarea with debugging information at the bottom of the browser window while uploading photos with the batch uploader.

maybe this can give us some hints that show what goes wrong. if you are able to send me a login to your wordpress admin section (once you did the changes above) via email, i could have a look at it myself. otherwise you can already post the debug info that you get on a failed upload here.

As far as I know, nothing has changed. I disabled all the other plugins to see if there was a conflict, but there was no change. My hosting company says there hasn't been a change on the server side, but I can't say for sure there hasn't been. So far some server change seems like the likeliest culprit.

I just recently began receiving a 403 error on batch upload to my PhotoQ site. I know this particular problem is described in the troubleshooting document, but adding the mod_security directives listed there to my htaccess file did not help my situation. Upon upload using the batch uploader I receive a 403 error and disabling the batch uploader provides a workaround, just as described in the troubleshooting document, but mod_security does not appear to be the issue.

The upload handler edit.php returns the following raw response:

HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden
Date: Thu, 06 May 2010 03:56:18 GMT
Server: Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) DAV/2 mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 SVN/1.4.2

Connection: close
Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>

</head><body>

<p>You don't have permission to access /wp-admin/edit.php
on this server.</p>
</body></html>

I've tried modifying the permissions for edit.php as well as the photoQ upload and cache folders but with no success. Nothing has changed on my server that I'm aware of. I checked php.ini for any strange changes to upload or memory limits and found nothing unusual.

I really feel like this problem is identical to the troubleshooting issue and I truly apologize if I'm missing something obvious and am simply cluttering the forum with redundant issues. If anyone has run across this particular issue caused by something other than a mod_security problem, any information would be greatly appreciated.

hi,

so at first I increased memory limit to 128 meg, which helped with GD.
Now with the patch, the Imagemagick path information stays set in the options and there is no error message.
When publishing, I have no error messages either, but I am not sure which GL Photoq uses, since both should be available...
can I tell somehow which one is being used?

i think i got it:
auto-updating wordpress and plugins work fine, however i encountered the same upload problem with the media library.
After rechecking I found the upload_tmp_dir in php.ini empty, so that did the trick so far. I kinda knew there was inconsistent upload behavior but it worked in 2.7.1 so I figured it cant be wrong for 2.9.x but it was.

Works fine with batch uploads now, too. Yippie!

Hope that solves it and php.ini does not get overwritten by some cronjob / script / higher up directive...

Thanks alot for the pointers!

Sidenote: Is Imagemagick now necessary for photoq?
When trying to publish, I get this message:
"All attempts to create GD image source failed.
ImageMagick is not installed (it is highly recommended that you install it).
Source image is too large (800x600 = 0.5Mpx, max=13.4Mpx) for GD creation (either install ImageMagick or increase PHP memory_limit to at least 68M)."
(and a whole lot more of that stuff, basically saying I need Imagemagick).

ok, I disabled batch uploads in the options menu. But when trying to publish with PhotoQ, it still wants the common information for batch uploads and it still loses the picture when I click "Import/Enter Information". This happens when using the Import from FTP Directory option.

Direct uploads fail immediately with the message "The file upload failed with the following error: Es fehlt ein temporärer Ordner.." - where do I specify the temporary directory for PhotoQ? Maybe there is a server setting that needs to be set in order for this to work?

Hi,

after some time I tried again to update Wordpress (from 2.7.1. to 2.9.2) and PhotoQ (from 1.6 to 1.83) and I am still experiencing the same problem which kept me from updating before:

After uploading photos / specifiying the ftp directory and entering the common batch info, right after pressing "Importieren / Informationen eingeben" (Import / Enter Info), PhotoQ loses the beforehand recognized photos. So I cannot publish at all with the new WP/PhotoQ.

It would be great if you could give me a hint as to where to look for (and fix) the error. Any idea why PhotoQ loses the uploads in the new version?

BTW, the database convert worked without problems, so the published fotos look like they should and can be batch manipulated by PhotoQ, I just can't publish new ones.

Thx alot 4 your great effort with the plugin,
mo

PS: How can I publish single photos (to test if that works)? Is it just the function "Publish first foto" from the menu?
