Hi.

I just tried this plugin http://dd32.id.au/wordpress-plugins/add-from-server/ and it works great. You can select which folders you want to import from and copies the files to the directories available to Media Library. I don't think it will copy future files added to the directory. It would be nice if Media Library was rewritten to view other folders so you didn't have to waste server space by cloning same file.

Miklas.

Hi Manu.

I just went searching for the same idea. It would be really nice if media library had access to the files/database that are uploaded via photoQ. As Nikant states, no need to be able to edit or move files. The files are stored in seperate folder, so couldn't this be "seen" by the media library and vice versa.

Keep up the good work. PhotoQ is the best photo plugin for wordpress.

Miiklas.

no, sorry. the only efficient way to do this that i see is to export the database to a text file, do a search and replace in this text file and import it again into the database.
if you do this just make sure that you have proper backups of everything.

I'm not sure. I'm thinking either I turned the "hide originals" option off and then turned it back on at one point, or some issue with upgrading PhotoQ and/or WordPress triggered it to create a new originals directory. At any rate, it's happening a lot considering there's now four different originals directories.

I've consolidated all the files into one originals directory, but I've got a year's worth of posts to go through to make sure all the paths are correct (and there's about 6 months worth of posts that I know don't have the right path). Is there an automatic way already available to correct the paths on these posts?

ok, first of all this of course is not supposed to happen. so this must be due to a bug. you don't happen to know how you ended up with 3 originals directories?

rebuilding on the other hand should work. photoq knows where the original is located via the photoQPath custom field and it rebuilds published posts from there. for each of your photos the path in the photoQPath custom field should point to the original dir where the photos is located.

to consolidate the only way is to manually move the files to the correct place on the server and then update the photoQPath custom field for all the photos that moved accordingly (either via the wordpress editor or directly on the db). i can think of adding an option to automate this to a future version. but the best would be if it could be prevented from happening in the first place, so any insight into how i could reproduce this would be welcome. thanks.

I have the "hide originals directory" option enabled. Somehow or another, over time I've ended up with 3 originals directories, each with photos from various times. This is obviously a problem if I ever want to rebuild any posts, as PhotoQ can't locate the original photos to work from.

Is there a safe way to consolidate these directories into one, and is there any way I could prevent the same from happening in the future?

Thanks. :)

hello and thank you for that nice plugin!

I don't know if there is any change in your plans regarding Media Library but it would be really nice if we could bridge the two. If you or anyone has any ideas in how one could add to the database in Media Gallery the entries of PhotoQ that would be great.. (just the entries so M.L. can see the images, not move files around..)

thank you

Unfortunately, I could not get this to work.

I will continue to test on a development server.

But I could not find this function "getMyPresetsDir()"

In this file "classes/PhotoQOptionController.php"

Yes, you are correct in that the ABSPATH is prepended to the whole thing.

If I could define the path without the prepended path in front of what I define it would work great.

Thank you for any help.

i guess that if you change the following functions inside classes/PhotoQOptionController.php you could make it work like you want:

getImgDir()

getCacheDir()

getMyPresetsDir()

i say, "i guess" because i did not have time to test and i did not have a lot of time to look into this as i am just leaving for vacation. so i guess you will have to hack on your own. i think what causes problems in your case is the fact that the ABSPATH is prepended to the whole thing. i will try to look into it when i come back, looks like this could be interesting for other users as well. please keep me updated on your progress. thanks.

No your question is not stupid, some folks have not heard of this I am sure.

The wp-content folder is what I am leaving as public.

The rest of the WP core files such as wp-admin are what is in a hidden directory.

Below are some tips for security from Word Press.

Including Editing the wp-config, session keys, moving the wp-content folder, etc...

The are just a few tricks that obscure the "normal" public structure and make it more difficult (still not impossible) for exploits, etc.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php

I do not need to move the image directory outside of wp-content, I need to specify a different path in the photoQ plugin to wp-content.

Could you tell me where I can define this in the code?

Thanks

stupid question, maybe i am missing something: how can you keep this hidden, the wordpress folder structure is anyway publicly known, no?

imgdir outside of wp-content should work with a relative path but wouldn't suit your purpose either because the path would then be sth like path/to/your/wordpressroot/../newimgdir

further, right now i would not advise you to change the imgdir if you already have posted photos with a different imgdir setting. the reason is that currently original files are not moved around automatically when changing imgdir, so you will end up with original photo files at different places. this will get fixed soon, i just didn't yet have the time to do it properly. so until then i guess it is best if you define your imgdir once when you setup your blog and stick to it.

Hello,

I am kind of paranoid when it comes to security and am trying to take extra steps to secure my blog.

My wordpress install has been relocated and all is working fine.

However, the next time that I post a new image it is going to reveal the directory of my plugins, admin and wordpress core files in the image URL, and I am trying to keep this hidden.

I noticed that there is a "Image Directory" field under further options and this is default to wp-content.

So I tried to define an absolute path such as "/server/user/pub_html/wp-content" in this field and it simply appended this to the current install directory that I am trying to keep hidden.

Is there a way that I can define the wp-content folder 1 directory up from the core wordpress files install folder, instead of 1 directory under the install?

Thank you for your help, and again I love this plugin it has made my work so much easier!

tmo,

currently there is no way to see uploads from the media library.

photoq was not really intended as a gallery plugin so there is no gallery function out of the box. however, you can mimic galleries by creating an archive page like it is e.g. done here http://www.whoismanu.com/iq2-demo/?page_id=8 with the iq2 theme. here http://www.whoismanu.com/iq2-wordpress-photoblog-theme/ you can find a description on how to do this with the iq2 theme. maybe this can serve you as a model.

Is there a way to set it up so that PhotoQ uploads are visible from the WordPress media library?

We use the "All in One Gallery" to display posted pics together in a separate gallery. However, it only works with pics in the media library.

At alternative would to setup a similar type of gallery page with PhotoQ.

Any suggestions?
