your question shows me that i failed with the documentation :-)

here you go:

1. create a new view with the name of the custom field
2. set the new form to freeform (click corresponding radio button)
3. put [imgUrl|main] into the freeform field
4. hit save changes. all posts will be updated with the new field

that's it.

I love the freedom included with the new release! Especially the freeform option. I just wish I could figure out how to use it to output the url for the "main" image into a certain custom field.

i am currently working on the next version (1.8) one of its main new features will be a freeform option for post formatting. what this means is that the full control of how posts are formatted is given to the user, so you will soon be able to add/remove whatever html and css you want.

Thanks So Much!!!

Two hours before you posted I had just figured out a way to make it work by creating a function:

// Created to automatically put an image's "main" size url into the "image" custom field
function generatecoolbeans($sizeName)
{
return $this->_sizes[$sizeName]->getUrl();
}

Then I just used the function to pass the url:

$extra_meta1 = 'image';
add_post_meta($postID, $extra_meta1, $this->generatecoolbeans('main'), true);

But as proud as I am of my solution, yours works too and looks better so I'll use it. Again, thanks and keep up the good work!

hi. having more flexibility when it comes to views, for example via custom fields as you propose is planned. however, this feature will most likely not yet make it to the next release.

so if you want it right now you have to make a hack. to achieve what you want you could try something like this instead of what cvanmeer proposes above (note i didn't test it but i think it should work):

$sizeName = 'main';
$extra_meta1 = 'image';
add_post_meta($postID, $extra_meta1, $this->_sizes[$sizeName]->getUrl(), true);

you have to set $sizeName to the name of the image size you want to have in the custom field. please tell me whether it worked out. thanks.

Thanks for your quick reply! I was hoping for it to only post the actual URL of the image from the excerpt, not the entire excerpt.

For example:
The excerpt put into a post is:
"<img width="600" height="400" alt="Fam Affair 103" src="http://www.yourheretosmile.com/cheese/wp-content/main/2009_07/Fam Affair_103.JPG" class="photoQexcerpt photoQImg" />"

The part I want put into the "image" custom field is:
"http://www.yourheretosmile.com/cheese/wp-content/main/2009_07/Fam Affair_103.JPG"

Is there any way of doing that?

Add this to plugins/photoq-photoblog-plugin/classes/PhotoQPhoto.php at line 340
Change the $extra_meta variable to what kinds of meta field you want to add.

/* BEGIN EXTRA META-DATA */

$extra_meta1 = 'image';

Let me just say this first. GREAT Work on this Plugin!

After a few hours of sifting threw the code I still couldn't figure this one out.

What I need to completely automate my site is to have the plugin to input the same url for the main image of the post that it puts into the excerpt into the value for custom field "image" I created. Any thoughts?

I am wondering if this is because I have the java script pop up defined in the link tag as well from the photoQ settings...?

yes i think this is the problem. at least if i look at the example image you gave and remove the one from the < a > tag with firebug, it works as it should.

Is there anyway to take the onmouseup="hl2l(event);"

out of the link tag attributes without updating every post?

well no, of course not as it is part of the post. however, updating doesn't mean updating by hand with photoq. photoq is designed such that most of the changes (e.g. changes in the view, which we are talking about here) are applied to all posted posts as well. so photoq updates every posted post automatically. all you should have to do is change the view to what you want (i.e. without the onmouseup event) and then save the photoq settings. photoq will then go through all your posts and update each one. at the same time it will also add the onmouseup to the img tags if you changed this in the functions we discussed about above. attention: considering that you have a huge number of posts, i strongly recommend that you backup your website (database and all the image folders original, main, thumbnail, etc) before doing this - you never know what can go wrong.

another thought just crossed my mind. what you want to do is basically add the onmouseup to every img tag there is on your site. i guess you could do this very easily in a dynamic way when the page loads via javascript (e.g. jQuery). like this the onmouseup is not part of the post and if you one day decide to take it away, you just delete the javascript from your theme and you don't have to update all the posts.

OK, I see where to add it for the link.

I went ahead and added it for the link like this.

function generateImgLink
{
..........<img onmouseup="hl2l(event);" width="'.$this->

However, it the box only pops up for a second and then goes away.

I am wondering if this is because I have the java script pop up defined in the link tag as well from the photoQ settings...?

So the onmouseup="hl2l(event);" is in the Link tag and in the <img> tag. If I take it out of the tag then it will not work for all of my existing images in IE (as it does now) although it would work for all newly added images in both IE and FF. But with over 1800 images I think I would rather just let it work for IE and...

Maybe I should just wait till you can add the field in the options???

"I am only concerned with the image that is on the individual post not the original."

I would like to leave the link in place so that the visitor can click the linked image and the original open. The original images are huge! 21 MP in size. This is what makes my site unique.

But if they right click the image thumbnail (not the small ones but the large one which is 550x375)in the post then the pop-up with code should function as does in IE.
