Have you thought about hosting the code somewhere so that your original code is still there, but other people can post updated versions as well? It might be an easier way to find a new maintainer for the project, and the web site would be the coordinator...

1. no, it currently only works with the ImageDescription Exif tag. here is some more info on this that might be of help to you: http://www.whoismanu.com/forum/topic/auto-title-imagedescription

2. Yes, there is a whole section on this in the online documentation: http://www.whoismanu.com/photoq-wordpress-photoblog-plugin/#cronjob

Hello,

I try the new version of photoq and i have two questions.

First one : in the Autogenerated information there is this option : "Get auto title from EXIF “ImageDescription” field instead of filename, unless field is empty"
I have a problème with it when I look with exiftool the information of my photo I don't have a ImageDescription field, the title of photo are in the "Object Name (Title)" field, so my question is :

is it possible to use another field to automated the title of the post ?

My second question is a practical question, is there somehting to do for the cron job run ? because i'd like to automated my workflow to plublish picture on a blog via ftp, and i don't known what to do with this options.

Thanks if you have response for this :)

And thanks for your amazing work.

Sorry for my poor english

Great to hear from you - and thanks for the email too - relieved to hear that you are ok, just very busy

I know how hard you worked before your move on parts of the 2.0 release, notably getting the featured image support in for me - but a move of job and home always takes a lot of time

I like the idea of the collaborative development - with you still as the project coordinator?

First of all I would like to say that I am sorry for my long absence without even leaving a note. I just noticed that some people even started to worry about me, which I am even more sorry about.

So what happened? Essentially, I moved to a new city and I started a new job. I had all my gear locked up in a storage space for some time and had a first assignment abroad with only very limited time at my hands. Just before, I worked hard on the v2.0 beta and I hoped I could finish it before moving. This was unfortunately not the case, there were just too many loose ends. Why did I not leave a note for your guys? Well I do not really have a good excuse to this one. I guess I just thought I'll do it soon and suddenly I realized it had been six months that I haven't been on my site anymore.

I realize that this must have been a very frustrating experience for many of my users. I also realize that I have lost some of your trust.

So what are my plans for the future of this plugin? I would like to continue supporting PhotoQ. After all I have invested a lot of my time into it over the past few years. However, the last months have clearly shown me that I will not be able to put as much time into it as I used to and I would like to be transparent about that. I don't have a 100% clear plan yet but the priority should for sure be to get you guys a working version again. What is also likely, is that I will have to cut down on direct user support on this forum, which had started to eat more and more of my time. Further possibilities include making the code more open to collaborative development by hosting it elsewhere. Any ideas and suggestions from your side on this topic are of course very welcome.

Manuel

I just uploaded ver 2.0; One thing that seems to have disappeared in in the Further Options section. In 1.9, the first option is to change the Image Directory, and that has gone in v2 (or moved and I haven't found it).

I quite like this option - why has it been removed?

NOTE: I just investigated and see that the images are put in uploads/qdir in v2 - if this is the reason, that's great; my main interest was to have them visible within /uploads

I hope this plugin will live on. I am just starting to figure it out. I just started rebuilding my site as a photoblog and this plugin is the answer to a number of my problems. I So far 2.0b6, the only thing I came across for an issue was rebuilding after changing the excerpt to 'Empty'. It processed for a while but didn't change anything on the site.

I did notice going from 1.9 to 2.0 that the processing seemed to speed up, which is always good.

I'm kind of wondering if the author of PhotoQ has died/given up/gone on vacation. No new blog posts or forum posts for around 45 days.

There are a lot of issues with 2.0b6 as outlined in this thread and others in the PhotoQ forums. For now, your best bet is to use v1.9 with two code patches that you have to do yourself. Descriptions of the v1.9 patching process:

Change line 67 in /classes/PhotoQExif.php and line 190 in /classes/photo/PhotoQ_Photo_PublishedPhoto.php as described here:
http://www.whoismanu.com/forum/topic/errors-when-rebuilding-or-changing-exif-layout

Download the patch linked in this thread and overwrite the old files:

Things are working fine for me - for the most - with this beta [version 2.0b6]. I'm using it on the Mac via Safari.

What I notice it are some slowdowns when the queue gets build with the meta tags. Sometimes it "folds funny" ... if that makes sense. In this aspect the older, 1.9 version seemed faster, more responsive, less laggy.

Love most of the features but really miss one - I don't want each and every photo be put into a fresh post but sort of like the Gallery options... bundled all together and have one the 'featured' image which will then be applied to the specialty tags (I use latest_ and random_ next to the 'normal' image sizes). I don't see how I can do this. Yes, yes, I'll also write this in the feature request section of the forum, but thought it still worthwhile here to mention... as it IS a thought I have to this version of the plugin. ;))

Scratch that, I am rolling back to 1.9[patched].

All new posts made with 2.0b display the 'original' size (i.e. a huge file) scaled to 800x600 - instead of the size defined in 'main' (in my case, "smallest side" = 600px).

Interestingly, rebuilding the old posts does not cause this to happen - they remain posted correctly, with the 'main' size set to "smallest side" = 600px. Only new posts have this problem, and rebuilding them after they are published doesn't help.

Also, the front page (autofocus theme) is loading the 'original' size instead of the 'main' size for the pictures there.

OK I downloaded and installed the 2.0b this morning (disable, delete, copy new files, enable). Install seemed to be work fine, all settings were 'remembered' from 1.9.

I am using a customized Autofocus theme and numerous other widgets and plugins (login, roles, antispam, avatars etc). I am using freeform for all my views, custom EXIF names and formatting, auto post by FTP, batch uploads, and posting by EXIF date.

THANK YOU so much for adding the ability to retain IPTC info!!!! However, when I tried to implement it, an error occurred:

I checked the boxes to add IPTC info to the "thumbnail" and "main sizes", hit save in the options panel, and it began to automatically rebuilt all of the published photos (1000+). This is what it read when I hit "save changes" (updating published photos got to around 10% or so before the error):
