hey there, i notice someone already posted this but reloading the theme isn't my first option here now that I've done all the work to tweak it. I'm wondering how to get rid of the line separating the page from the sidebar. I got rid of the rest of the sidebar and I don't need the sidebar real estate, but the line divider is throwing off my layout.

@azie, whoismanu's suggestion to add this line in iq2/classes/IQ2Theme.php fixes the problem:
add_filter('the_content_feed', array(&$this, 'addDescrToFeed'));

I've added it right after the "//add description to feeds" comment.

Hey there, I finally decided it was time to stop hacking my old theme and create a clean theme based on IQ2. Since you update it quite regularly, I decided to go the clean route and create a child theme so I don't lose all my modifications at every upgrade.

I'm following the explanations from the codex here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

So far, everything works as expected with style.css or header.php, but I'm having issues adding a new colour theme and using it. I must be missing something...

Here is my folder structure:

|/wp-content/themes/iq2 (has the full iq2 theme)
|--colors
|/wp-content/themes/iq2-child
|---colors
|----iq2-color-new-set.css
|--header.php
|--style.css

When the new color set only exists in iq2/colors, it is detected as expected on the settings page.
When the new color set only exists in iq2-child/colors, it is not listed on the settings page.

As a workaround, I copied the css file in both locations, but this behaviour does not feel right. What is the file I need to override in the child theme so that I only have to place my css file in the child folder, not the parent one.

Checking the feed this morning, I see that something I did on Sunday did, finally, correct the problem and I now have both the large image and the description in the <content:encoded> section of each RSS feed item. Thanks for your previous help and apologies for the false alarm this time round (though you may like to see if the change I made needs to be included in future IQ2 releases, I suppose).

It's time for my annual "Try to fix my RSS feed" day again. I've just updated everything to the latest version (Wordpress 3.0.3, PhotoQ 1.9, IQ2 1.3) hoping that my previous problem would go away but, unfortunately, my post description is still not included in the <content:encoded> section of each post's RSS item. Delving through the PHP for WordPress itself, I have absolutely no idea why this should be. I've made some changes to the IQ2Theme.php file for debug as follows:

	`//add description to feeds
add_filter('the_content_feed', array(&$this, 'addDescrToFeed'));
add_filter('the_excerpt_rss', array(&$this, 'addDescrToFeedExcerpt'));`

 The first add_filter used "the_content_rss" initially but I gather this is now deprecated in favour of "the_content_feed". Even after changing this, I see no difference (though, frankly, I'm not convinced that FeedBurner's refresh is working properly so I'll check again in an hour or so). I also doubled up the addDescToFeed function so that I can tell exactly which hook is being called:

	`/**
* Filter hook to add the description to the RSS feeds
* @param $content
* @return unknown_type
*/
function addDescrToFeed($content){
global $post;
/* if($this->_oc->getValue('feedShowDescr')){ */
$content .= "<!-- addDescrToFeed -->";
$content .= get_post_meta($post->ID, 'photoQDescr', true);
/* } */
return $content;
}
function addDescrToFeedExcerpt($content){
global $post;
if($this->_oc->getValue('feedShowDescr')){
$content .= "<!-- addDescrToFeedExcerpt -->";
$content .= get_post_meta($post->ID, 'photoQDescr', true);
}
return $content;
}`

Looking at the XML generated for my feed, I see that the addDescrToFeedExcerpt filter was called to fill in the <description> block but that the addDescToFeed filter was never called when <content:encoded> was set up. The code in WordPress's feed.php which I presume is called to generate this block (isn't "grep" a wonderful debugging tool?) calls:

return apply_filters('the_content_feed', $content, $feed_type);

so I can't see why our filter isn't being used. Any ideas?

Any help you can offer on this would be excellent since this is really driving me mad. How difficult can it be to get the description text to appear underneath the full resolution photo in the RSS feed?

Hey everyone,

On my installation (http://www.laura-and-erik.com/ erik/blog/, without the space; the new photoQ and iQ2 beta versions), I seem to have some remotely similar symptoms; there's no error in the settings page, but the sidebar still doesn't appear. However, in my case (since I use the new beta version of iQ2) the register_sidebar call is already outside the if. Is there any setting that I could have that would mess with the display of sidebars? I did some minimal debugging and while the register_sidebar call must run (I temporarily put an 'echo "x";' after it, and the "x" showed up), there's no "widgettitle" in the generated page.

I have selected a couple of widgets to be displayed in the sidebar, and they do appear in the "about" and "archive" pages, but not next to the regular photo page.

Thanks!
Erik.

ok, this really was a stupid bug that crept in. it is also easy to fix. what you have to do is to edit iq2/classes/iQ2Theme.php. just move the part that deals with the sidebar and says

//register the sidebar
register_sidebar(
 array('before_title' => '<h3 class="widgettitle">','after_title' => '</h3>')
);

out of the
if
block it currently resides in, such that the result looks like this

...

require_once(IQ2_PATH . 'classes/IQ2Helpers.php');

//register the sidebar
register_sidebar(
 array('before_title' => '<h3 class="widgettitle">','after_title' => '</h3>')
);

if(is_admin()){
 //add the theme admin menu

...

hi faseeh,

glad you like the theme.

you need to strip the things you don't want to show from the single.php file. in your case you probably want to delete everything that is inside the photoInfoBox div. looking at your page at http://www.faseehshams.com/ it seems that you already found how to do that :-)

the comments are removed by deleting (also from single.php) the line that says: comments_template();

hi

thanks a lot for your post. no, you're not missing anything, this clearly is a bug. last time i checked it worked, now it doesn't. however, all the widget machinery is there but apparently it no longer gets loaded. i will have to look into what exactly has changed. don't worry, we'll find a fix for this one.

Hi All, I have installed Photoq 1.9 with IQ2 1.3 and have no other plugins installed yet. I'd like to install some widgets for the sidebar but the /wp-admin/widgets.php page gives me the message:

'No Sidebars Defined' The theme you are currently using isn’t widget-aware...

My understanding is that IQ2 is 'Fully widget compatible'. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for your response.
