PhotoQ 1.9 and iQ2 1.3 for WordPress 3.0

New versions for both PhotoQ and iQ2 are now available for download. If you use both PhotoQ and iQ2, please update both at the same time.

As already explained in the post on its beta version, here is what’s new in PhotoQ 1.9b:

  • *** New requirements: PhotoQ 1.9b needs at least PHP 5.1.2 to run. In particular: PHP 4 is no longer supported. *** If your current site runs on PHP 4, switching to PHP 5 is usually a matter of simply adding a line or two to your .htaccess file. Please contact your webhost for details.
  • All of these known bugs should now be fixed.
  • PhotoQ is now able to read IPTC metadata in addition to EXIF. (IPTC tags are treated the same as EXIF tags, so they also show up under “Choose Exif Tags” in the PhotoQ EXIF settings.)
  • There seems to be a high demand to get the post date from EXIF. PhotoQ is now able to do so. (new setting under “Further Options”)
  • WPMU support was dropped in favor of the new WordPress 3 networks. (should work pretty much the same as WPMU, so the same instructions apply)
  • Huge parts of the code have been rewritten with not many classes that remained untouched. Although this is the biggest change of all, it should be mostly transparent to the user. Major refactorings like this will most probably continue for the next few versions: I hope to end up with a cleaner, stabler and more versatile code base enabling many new features for version 2.0.

More details and an explanation of all the features can be found in the PhotoQ Documentation and on the iQ2 theme page. Please post any support questions or bug reports on the forum and not as comments to a blog post.

Finally, I decided to give GlotPress a try. Thanks to this wonderful tool, everyone can now easily contribute to translating PhotoQ and iQ2 at the following URL: http://www.whoismanu.com/translate/ . To log in, you use the same credentials as for the forum. If you don’t have an account on the forum yet, you can register at http://www.whoismanu.com/forum/ . A registration also allows you to directly download the latest language .po files. If you feel highly motivated and want to become a validator for a specific language (preferably your mother tongue), please let me know (Note that you can contribute without being a validator). If you want to contribute to a translation in a language that is not listed on the page, please let me know and I will add it.

So, now it is your turn. I am happy about any contributions I can get. Even if you only translate one single line, you help to bring this project forward. It is really not difficult and pretty self explanatory. If you nevertheless feel that you need more information, I suggest that you read the “Getting Started Guide” at wordpress.org to get a short introduction to GlotPress. More general information on translating WordPress can be found in the codex.

    Hi Manu,

Great theme and plugin. I'm going to use it for a friend real soon! I'm testing it local right now.

One question, are you using a plugin for the comments, or did you write it yourself? I also really like the numbering and the build with the alternating colors. Please let me know how to build use your comment section.

    TNX,
