PhotoQ 1.5.2 – Adds FTP Uploading And Batch Posting

This update for PhotoQ 1.5 includes a number of bugfixes and also some new features. Performing the update is recommended to all PhotoQ users. Please check the updating instructions below. For a full description of all features please also see the post of the PhotoQ 1.5 release.

New features:

  • Import photos uploaded via FTP. There is now a new option under “Settings->PhotoQ->Further Options->FTP Upload” that lets you enable importing photos from a specified directory on your server. Once enabled, you get a new button “Import from ftp directory…” when adding photos to your queue. A click on the buttons leads to the FTP import screen where you can choose which photos from the ftp directory PhotoQ should import and where you can also enter common info for the photos to be imported. Note that depending on whether PhotoQ has write permissions to the ftp directory it will copy (if it doesn’t have write permission) or move (if it does) the selected files from the ftp directory to the qdir.
  • Publish several photos from the queue at once. In the PhotoQ management panel (“Manage->PhotoQ”) you will now find a second post button to the left of the “Post Top of Queue…” button. Under “Settings->PhotoQ->Further Options->Second Post Button” you can specify how many photos are published at once if you hit this button.
  • Lists of categories can now be folded away throughout the plugin which is convenient if you deal with a lot of categories. There is an option under “Settings->PhotoQ->Further Options->Fold Categories” that lets you decide whether you want category lists to be open or closed by default.
  • Nicer default titles. If you do not specify a title when uploading a photo, PhotoQ until now just showed the corresponding filename. It still does so but it now tries to make it nicer by replacing underscores and hyphens with spaces, by stripping off the file extension and with proper title capitalization.

Bugs fixed / Changes with respect to previous versions:

  • Multiline inline descriptions of posted photos can now also be changed in the visual editor (thanks to Brandon for pointing this out). A consequence of this is that inline descriptions are no longer placed inside a <p> tag but rather inside a <div>. PhotoQ should update published posts automatically to incorporate this change. You may however have to update your CSS definitions for the “photoQDescr” class accordingly.
  • The cache directory has been moved out of the plugin folder so that for the next update the WordPress auto upgrade should finally work properly. The new location of the PhotoQ cache is at “wp-content/photoQCache”. If PhotoQ has write permissions to “wp-content” it will create the cache folder automatically, otherwise you will have to create the folder “photoQCache” folder yourself and make sure PhotoQ has write permissions to it.
  • PhotoQ database tables are now created using the same charset/collation as the standard WordPress tables (thanks to Art for this one) plus an id is used as key for photos instead of the image name.
  • Adding meta fields should no longer block field values of photos that are already in the queue.
  • Plus some more small bugs here and there.

Upgrading from previous versions:

  • First of all do not use the WordPress auto upgrade, it is very likely to fail. This update fixes issues with the auto upgrade function, so the next time you update the auto upgrade should finally work.
  • If you upgrade from a PhotoQ version older than 1.5, please check and follow the procedure given here.
  • Upgrading from 1.5.1: Deactivate PhotoQ in the WordPress admin panel. Upload the folder “photoq-photoblog-plugin” to “wp-content/plugins” on your webserver, replacing the old one. You will probably not be able to replace/delete the old “cache” folder (in “wp-content/plugins/photoq-photoblog-plugin/cache”) because of permission issues, so just leave it where it is but make sure you replace everything else. Reactivate PhotoQ. Done. You should now also be able to delete the old “cache” folder from your webserver.
  • Upgrading from 1.5: Deactivate PhotoQ in the WordPress admin panel. Upload the folder “photoq-photoblog-plugin” to “wp-content/plugins” on your webserver. Reactivate PhotoQ, making sure you activate the one where it says version 1.5.2. Finally, delete the old PhotoQ plugin folder “wp-content/plugins/whoismanu-photoq” from your webserver.

    shunz,

i use it with firefox and it works perfectly fine. i guess that you are using flash player 10 and that the problem lies there. right now the upload script used by wordpress (and thus by photoq) is not compatible with flash player 10 (see http://www.whoismanu.com/blog/2008/09/photoq-wordpress-photoblog-plugin-15-brings-tons-of-new-features-to-your-photoblog/#requirements . as it looks now this will be fixed in wordpress 2.7 and the photoq update that will accompany it).

this leaves you with one of the following options:
1.) if you need batch uploads in photoq right away your only option is to downgrade to flash player 9
2.) disable batch uploads in “settings->photoq->further options”. you can then upload photos to your queue one by one.
3.) batch upload via ftp and use the new ftp import feature introduced in this update

    Hi Whoismanu,

is this possible to publish photos from queue not only as a post but also as a custom field. Most of new themes uses custom fields to show featured news photo or thumbnail and it would be very usefull if PhotoQ would add photo to predefinied custom field.

Sorry for my ponglish but i hope You can understand… ;o)

BTW i love PhotoQ! It`s really great!

    Hi,
I have the 1.5.3 version. It worked great and then all of a sudden it stopped. I talked to someone and he said that I needed to ask for permissions. If so, how do I do that?
    thanks,
